METIS held a mini symposium on active learning teaching methods in online classes

International exchange / study abroad

20253Month18On Tuesday,METISAs part of the program, we will be conducting international collaborative education using online active learning, so we invited experts from Japan and Northern Europe to hold a mini symposium in a hybrid format for related faculty and staff on teaching methods and quality assurance.

METIS is Reiwa6Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology "Project to Strengthen University Global Expansion"EUThis is the "Japan-Northern Europe Collaborative Education Program: Training Highly Specialized Engineers Who Will Create the Future of the Oceans," which was adopted by the "Support for the Formation of Inter-University Exchanges with Other Countries and Regions" program.6We work with universities (University of Southern Denmark, Technical University of Denmark, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Arctic University of Norway, University of Stavanger and Nord University) to provide study abroad programs and internships for graduate students.METISParticipating students are7Implemented in collaboration with universities1As the students will be participating in an international collaborative education program using online active learning for approximately one week, this symposium was held to help improve the quality of the program by helping the relevant faculty improve their teaching methods.

First, Tetsuro Hyodo, Dean of the Graduate School of Marine Science and Technology at our university, gave an opening address, in which he expressed his expectations for the effects of participating in this symposium on improving education in the future. After that, Kuniaki Sato, Counsellor for International Affairs at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's Higher Education Bureau, gave a speech, and our university'sMETISThis was an opportunity for those involved with our university to once again recognize that the program is not just an initiative of one university, but has a mission to promote the internationalization of Japanese universities.

Afterwards, under the auspices of Associate Professor Takanori Sakai of the Department of Information and Distribution Engineering, Professor Yoshiko Ikeda of Kansai University spoke about the significance of international collaborative education using online courses at Japanese universities, and the significance of the international collaborative education at Norwegian universities.2The schools introduced examples of their practices and issues.3The presentations by the experts and the group work were practical and meaningful, and the venue was filled with lively Q&A sessions.

Finally, Executive Vice President for Education and International Affairs Masashi Maita expressed his gratitude to the speakers and gave a closing address, bringing the symposium to a successful close.
